日本人にとって桜は、単なる花ではありません。
It’s not just a flower — it’s a symbol of renewal, beauty, and the fleeting nature of life.

今回は、桜の代表品種「ソメイヨシノ（Somei Yoshino）」を中心に、
その魅力、日本文化との深い関係、そして春の楽しみ方をご紹介します。

🌸 1. 世界に広がる桜の名前　Cherry Blossom Names Around the World

桜の学名は Cerasus × yedoensis ‘Somei-yoshino’。
The scientific name of Somei Yoshino is Cerasus × yedoensis ‘Somei-yoshino’.

「ソメイヨシノ」は江戸時代後期、東京の染井村で誕生した園芸品種です。
It originated in Tokyo’s Soméi village during the late Edo period.

ソメイヨシノは、3月下旬〜4月上旬に見頃を迎えます。
They bloom from late March to early April, marking the arrival of spring.

南から北へ「桜前線」がゆっくりと移動していくのが日本の春の風物詩です。
The “Sakura front” moves from south to north — a unique seasonal journey across Japan.

関東風（長命寺）はクレープ状の生地、関西風（道明寺）はもち米の粒感が特徴です。
In Tokyo, it’s thin and crepe-like; in Kyoto, it’s made with coarse rice grains (Domyoji style).

「花より団子」とは、“美より実利”という日本のことわざ。

花見では、美しい桜を眺めながら、団子やお弁当を楽しむのが伝統です。
During hanami, people gather under blooming trees, eating dumplings and sharing laughter.

ソメイヨシノの花言葉は「純潔」「優美」「精神美」。
The flower meanings are “purity,” “grace,” and “spiritual beauty.”

桜は、咲いてもすぐに散る――そのはかなさが、日本人の心を打ちます。
Their fleeting beauty embodies the Japanese concept of “Mono no Aware”,
the awareness of impermanence and the beauty within it.

What Is “Hana-bie”?

桜の時期に一時的に気温が下がる現象を「花冷え」と言います。
Hana-bie refers to the chilly days that come during cherry blossom season.
春の夜桜見物には、上着を1枚持っていくと安心ですよ。
